Decided races in The Gayly’s viewing area

Arkansas – Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor lost his seat to freshman US Rep. Tom Cotton, putting the GOP a step closer to its goal of controlling the Senate for the first time in eight years.

Oklahoma – Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe retained his seat in the Senate. US Rep. James Lankford was elected to fill the last two years of Sen. Tom Coburn’s term. Coburn is resigning from his seat after the election.

 

Elsewhere

West Virginia – Republican Shelley Moore Capito won the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D).

Kentucky – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) defeated challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. McConnell may end up the Senate Majority Leader if predictions hold through the evening. The GOP has to win six new seats to get control of the Senate.
