Oklahoma City Cat Club Allbreed cat show
Cats will be washed and fluffed and strutting their stuff at the annual Oklahoma City Cat Club show at the Biltmore Hotel April 4th. More than 100 cats and household pets will compete for prizes at the annual event.
“We’re hoping all the interest about cats on the internet will spill over to cat shows where some really fascinating breeds are displayed,” said show manager Janis Walkingstick. ”Some of our visitors are surprised to learn there are 40 breeds of cats that may be shown at CFA shows. The Cat Fanciers Association is the largest cat registry in the world. We’re sanctioned by them,” Walkingstick said.
Six judges from across the country will each pick their ten top cats for final awards, making it like six shows in one. Those finals are worth points for even bigger awards at the end of the year
For those non-initiated who haven’t yet attended a cat show, felines aren’t run around a ring like dogs at their shows. Show cats are taken to cages in a judging area where each is inspected by a judge who determines which cats adhere to breed standards of conformation the best.
“One of the best parts of the show is watching the household pet judging. The non-pedigreed pets are judged on health and beauty. It’s a chance for pet owners to show off their loved and pampered pets,” Walkingstick said. Closing date for entering both household pets and pedigreed cats is Wednesday April 1. Entry clerk Sheryl Zink may be reached at(281)-379-3897.
Every spectator during the day will have a chance to vote for his or her favorite cat or kitten in the entire show. A special ‘People’s Choice’ rosette will be awarded to the special cat and its owner at 4:00 pm Saturday.
In addition to watching the judging and speaking with cat breeders, spectators may visit vendors who will have pet related items for sale, enter a raffle, or visit with PAWS-OK rescue group which plans on having some adoptable pets at the show. People food will also be available.
Cat show hours are from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, April 4 at the Biltmore Hotel which is located just off I-40 at 401 S. Meridian Ave., in Oklahoma City. Adults will be charged $4.00 to enjoy the show. Seniors (65 and over) and children from 5 to 12 will be charged $3.00. Children under five may see the show free of charge.
(The Cat Club will have a rescue group on hand with adoptable pets).
