CLERMONT, Fla. (AP) — One of the 49 victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting will be honored by his hometown in central Florida.

Stanley Almodovar III was a 23-year-old pharmacy technician and a graduate of East Ridge High School in Clermont.

The Orlando Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/28UBDvY ) that at a city council meeting scheduled Tuesday night, Clermont Mayor Gail Ash will issue a proclamation naming June 28 as Stanley Almodovar III Day.

The proclamation lauds Almodovar for saving others by "putting himself in harm's way, ultimately sacrificing his life." A city spokeswoman says Almodovar's family and pastor will attend the meeting.

A California woman carried a photo of Almodovar in San Francisco's gay pride parade on Sunday. Richel Desamparado of Oakland said she wanted to remind people the fight for equality is not over.
