Rev. Franklin Graham slams Disney for “Andi Mack”

Rev. Franklin Graham, the CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and the famous evangelist’s son, is again enraged at what he sees as a dangerous LGBT+ influence on our society. This time he’s teed off on Disney Channel for the LGBT+ themed second season of its hit show Andi Mack.

On his Facebook page, on Saturday, Graham complained about the season premiere episode, in which character Cyrus Goodman, played by 15-year-old Joshua Rush, comes out to friend Buffy.

The post reads: “Disney used to be the brand that parents could trust. They were kind of like the ‘gold seal’ of family programming. But those days are long gone. Disney is in the LGBTQ camp, and they’re wanting to use so-called family-friendly programs to influence the youth of today to accept and to be a part of the destructive LGBT lifestyle. They’re introducing a gay storyline in one of their most popular programs, ‘Andi Mack,’ targeting 6-14 year-olds. Parents BEWARE. You can control this in your home. You might want to consider blocking their channel. Let Disney know why you are upset, but also take action that will get your message across.”

Graham’s broadside against Disney isn’t his first. Earlier this year he was upset by a “gay moment” in the remake of Beauty and the Beast. He wrote: “They’re trying to push the LGBT agenda into the hearts and minds of your children—watch out! Disney has the right to make their cartoons, it’s a free country. But as Christians we also have the right not to support their company. I hope Christians everywhere will say no to Disney.”

“This is certainly not out of character for the evangelical hardliner, who has suggested Satan is behind LGBTQ rights, equates homosexuality with ‘senseless violence’ and loves gay people ‘enough to care to warn them that if they want to continue living like this, it’s the flames of hell for you,’ John Allyn Welch said in the Huffington Post.

“What baffles, however, is Graham’s apparent obsession with LGBTQ people and the extreme theological lens through he views us in particular. He is clearly preoccupied with our damnation, seemingly placing our progress toward achieving equality at the top of the list of America’s moral woes over things like self-righteousness and indifference toward the sick and the poor.”

And Welch came up with a possible reason for the obsession: “Preaching hate pays. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association took in more than 100 million dollars in 2015. It seems a bit of charisma and the need to have your own prejudices and fears confirmed is all it takes to get the checkbooks out.

“While we can speculate endlessly on what fuel’s this man’s crusade against the LGBTQ community, one thing is clear: Franklin Graham is dangerous. His vitriol has demonized millions of Americans, justifying hatred and violence toward them. Sexual orientation is not a choice, bigotry is.”
