2020 Census Will Not Ask Citizenship Question

The Justice Department has informed plaintiffs in the census case that it plans to print the 2020 census without a question on citizenship.

The contentious battle over a question is done – for now.

“It’s a win for our nation, for our democracy, and for everyone in this country,” said Attorney General Xavier Becerra.

President Trump wanted the 2020 census to ask about citizenship status. “I think it’s very important to find out if somebody’s a citizen as opposed to an illegal,” he said.

But the question won’t be included this time.
