Group to introduce peace billboard campaign

Americans Against the Next War is a local coalition of individuals and groups that have worked over the past 14 months to prevent a military strike against Iran. The campaign has included editorials, paid ads, and billboards.

The group will review highlights of the previous year, and will announce the new message on three billboards gracing I-35 and I-40 in the Oklahoma City area.

Joining the group and speaking for their efforts will be Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, US Army (ret). Wilkerson is in town for public speaking engagements at UCO and OU.

The group will host a news conference on Wednesday, February 6th, 2013; 10:00 a.m. at the State Capitol Press Room. Moderating the news conference will be Nathaniel Batchelder, member of AANW and Director of the Peace House in Oklahoma City.

Speaking about the new billboards and broader direction of AANW will be Hal Spake, an eleven-year veteran of the U.S. military and a retired U.S. diplomat.

Lawrence Wilkerson is Distinguished Visiting Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.His last position in government was chief of staff to Colin Powell at the U.S. Department of State (2002-2005). Wilkerson served 31 years in the Army as both enlisted man and officer from 1966 to 1997.His final assignments were as Special Assistant to then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell (1989-1993) and, later, as Deputy Director and Director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College (1993-1997).
