Winter weather advisory issued for Oklahoma, Kansas, rain for Northwest Arkansas

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — The National Weather Service says freezing rain and ice are possible from a storm system poised to move through Oklahoma.

A winter weather advisory is in place for much of Oklahoma from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters say freezing rain is expected to develop behind a cold front late Thursday and early Friday. Kansas is already experiencing winter conditions which are expected to last through Friday morning. Northwest Arkansas is expected to have colder temperatures and rain.

In Oklahma, the weather service says ice accumulation of one-tenth of an inch is possible in some areas. The wintry precipitation is predicted to cause dangerous driving conditions during the Friday morning commute.

Thunderstorms are possible during the day Thursday before the temperature drops. Forecasters say southern Oklahoma could see isolated severe storms and large hail before the cold front moves through.
